London – Disney continues to up its fashion stakes, as following its highly
anticipated collaborative series with the company has announced a new
capsule collection with British fashion designer
Together with Disney, Raeburn has reimagined the company’s most iconic
cartoon couple – Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The Raeburn animal mascots which
accompany each season’s collection from the designer acted as the
blueprints for the London Fashion Week designer, who has created two
luxury, unisex bag styles which feature the talking mice.
“To work with the Walt Disney Company is not only a huge honour, it’s
thrilling to create something that really represents exactly what we’re
about as a brand,” said Christopher Raeburn in a statement. “Collaboration,
playfulness and innovative design are in our DNA, and this project has all
these elements.” Raeburn worked closely alongside with the team at Disney
to ensure the accuracy of these iconic characters was featured in the
finished design, while remaining true to his brand’s sustainability values.
“The design was honed over a whole year, working with Disney’s character
artist. We also worked hard to source the best materials and reduce waste
on the packaging,” added Raeburn. For example, the bags are made from
ethically sourced nappa leather, or organic European milled indigo denim.
The multi-purpose design features a zipper compartment at the back of the
mouse body as well as adjustable straps, so the bag can be worn over the
shoulder or held around the wrist.
The bags packaging is also sustainable, with each bag coming in a reusable
hexagonal box made from 100 percent recycled materials, produced by
Raeburn’s manufacturing partner, Avery Dennison RBIS. “To join up with a
company that has brought joy to millions with their characters and stories
is amazing. We hope to continue the love for these fun and original cartoon
icons,” concluded Raeburn.
The Mickey and Minnie Mouse capsule collection for Christopher Raeburn is
set to debut during London Fashion Week, launching Friday September 16 in
Selfridges and The Conran Store in London, in addition to a number of
international retail partners. The Minnie style will also be available in
pink nappa leather, exclusively at Selfridges.
