As IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega and fellow NJPW stars The Young Bucks continue to heat up in ROH and NJPW, speculation has been rampant in the past couple months that WWE might be making big overtures to sign top names like Omega, The Bucks, Cody Rhodes and possibly other stars.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Live, while WWE might be interested in signing stars like Omega and The Bucks, the company is currently not making big money offers to those talents. Despite WWE having the financial capability, Meltzer said, “[is WWE]making giant offers to beat the money these guys make? As of today, they are not. They may come in three months to do that, but they are not right now. Right now they’re still trying to keep that salary structure.”
Meltzer went on to reference certain talents who have taken pay cuts to sign with WWE, but others who have not, namely James Storm. Storm was offered a mere $60,000 per year to stay with WWE during his brief stint in NXT, while TNA offered Storm $150,000. The feeling in WWE was that Storm would take their deal since they are ‘the big leagues’, but that ended up not being the case, and Storm accepted the TNA deal.
