John Cena will be returning to the ring this December to help WWE close out the year with its annual holiday tour, including their huge day-after-Christmas event at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden.
Right now Cena is only confirmed for two Smackdown brand live events — 12/27 in Long Island and 12/28 in Baltimore — but according to PWInsider.com the 16-time world champion will also be working 12/26 at MSG, and 12/30 in Tampa, Florida.
Since WrestleMania 34, Cena has only wrestled three matches. His first was a 15-minute bout with Triple H at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, his second was a live event in Shanghai, and most recently a tag team match at WWE Super Show-Down where he tagged in at the very end, hit his signature moves and won the bout.
This will be by far the least “Big Match John” has worked for WWE in more than 16 years, as it looks like he will finish out the year with 27 matches under his belt. In 2017 while winding down and taking more bookings outside of the company than ever before, he worked 76 recorded matches, while in 2012 he worked over 200 matches in a single year.
Cena’s next movie, Bumblebee, a spinoff of the billion dollar Transformers franchise, is due out in theaters on Dec. 21st. At this point, he is not scheduled to appear on the road to WWE TLC, nor will he be working a match at the pay-per-view unless things change in the next few weeks.
