Avec la Covid-19, Karine Lacombe est devenue l’un des visages récurrents des chaînes d’information. Critiquée, l’infectiologue persiste car « La vie, c’est ‘la fight’ », explique-t-elle dans Le Monde.
Malgré les nombreuses critiques et menaces qui l’ont un temps poussée à quitter les réseaux sociaux, l’infectiologue Karine Lacombe continue à intervenir régulièrement à la télévision pour parler de la Covid-19. « Je considère que cela fait partie de mon travail de venir faire de la pédagogie à l’antenne. Et la quasi-absence des femmes sur la scène médiatique et scientifique pendant la pandémie m’oblige, pour toutes les autres, à garder cet espace de parole et à aller au charbon. (…) La vie, c’est ‘la fight’ (NDLR : le combat). Mais quelle violence parfois ! », explique dans Le Monde celle qui a réussi à trouver le temps d’écrire une bande dessinée intitulée La Médecin, une infectiologue au temps du corona, publiée chez Stock, sur son quotidien pourtant bien chargé à l’hôpital.

Depuis qu’elle a décidé de faire le métier qui correspond à sa vocation, Karine Lacombe a toujours eu à l’esprit cette formule héritée de son enfance, marquée par le parcours de ses grands-pères chacun résistants à leur manière. « J’ai gardé, enracinée en moi, cette idée qu’il ne fallait jamais s’arrêter. Si l’on arrête, on meurt. Car la vie, c’est ‘la fight’. Je le ressens ainsi. Mes amis rigolent de cette formule un peu ridicule, et enfantine. Mais je persiste. Cela me vient de très loin », explique dans les colonnes du journal la cheffe du service des maladies infectieuses de l’hôpital Saint-Antoine à Paris.
Un établissement dans lequel elle est arrivée après avoir exercé son métier dans de nombreux pays. Elle notamment fait des missions au Vietnam et en Afrique. Celle qui aidait à l’époque à la lutte contre le Sida et l’hépatite C dit toujours à sa « fille, aujourd’hui en cinquième année de médecine, qu’elle est au fond une petite Pakistanaise ».
La « fighteuse » épuise ses proches
Avant de devenir l’un des visages de la crise de la Covid-19, elle s’est longtemps battue pour s’imposer dans un milieu assez masculin. On n’arrête jamais Karine Lacombe. Une philosophie de vie qui épuise son entourage. « Tu te bats, tu ne te poses jamais, tu es fatigante ! », lui lancent régulièrement ses proches. « Cela explique sans doute que j’aie trois enfants de trois papas différents… J’épuise les gens, toujours portée par cette idée de la ‘fight’. On est tous façonnés par notre histoire familiale, inscrite elle-même dans la grande histoire », se justifie dans les colonnes du monde la mère de famille.
