Fendi creative director Karl Lagerfeld can check off another trip to Rome
on his travel destinations. The legendary designer has announced that Fendi
will stage another “haute fourrure” show in Rome on July 7 in honor of the
house’s 90th anniversary. The specific venue for Fendi’s couture show has yet to be disclosed.
This show is meant to highlight the momentum Fendi is feeling right now, as
sources say the brand’s revenues are closely approaching 1 billion euros.
Fendi is part of global luxury conglomerate LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis
Vuitton. Like all LVMH brands, Fendi’s sales figures are kept under lock
and key. However, their July 2015 high-fashion fur show has reportedly been
a monetary success. The brand saw multiple orders for coats priced as high
as 800,000 euros.
Last year, Lagerfeld decided to celebrate the brand’s heritage and 50 years
designing for Fendi by staging the first haute fourrure show, a couture
show devoted to fur as a material. This made him the first designer to
stage two haute couture shows during the same week, as Chanel couture
showed that same week as well.
Fur is a major staple of Fendi’s history. In 1926, the brand set up shop on
Via del Plebiscito with a small fur atelier and leather goods shop. Today,
Fendi is the only global luxury fashion house that has an in-house fur
atelier capable of realizing Lagerfeld’s fur fantasies.
Last year, Lagerfeld was quoted saying in an interview that, “fur for me is
something Italian because in France, I never do fur. There are not many
great fur people here, and their technique is basic compared to what I’m
used to.”
Couture week is scheduled July 3 to the 7 this year.
