Luis Suarez was left in tears as Uruguay’s Copa America 2019 campaign came to an end after they lost to Peru on penalties.
The Barcelona man had a goal ruled out in extra-time of their quarter-final tie as neither side could break the deadlock after 120 minutes.
But Peru won the shootout 5-4 and Suarez was the only player who failed to score his spot-kick with Pedro Gallesse equal to his effort.
It means Peru will face neighbours Chile in the semi-finals in Brazil, while the host nation will face Argentina in the other tie.
Uruguay fans will probably forgive Suarez for his miss but given he’s a player who divides opinion, there are many who will be ready to mock the 32-year-old whenever he has a setback.
And these include the fans of his former club Liverpool, who used to view him as a hero.
However, his actions in a Champions League semi-final tie against the Reds last season has now made him an enemy of the Kop.
Suarez rubbed Kopites the wrong way by celebrating a goal he scored in the first leg at the Camp Nou, before jeering at Andy Robertson when Barcelona won the game 3-0.
The striker then injured Robertson in the second leg at Anfield but Liverpool completed a stunning turnaround to book their place in the final en route to winning Champions League No.6.
And this latest Suarez setback had these Liverpool fans in high spirits. Below you can see the best tweets.
