LOCKPORT, IL — At its Wednesday meeting, the Lockport City Council approved a concept plan for a 260-unit town home and single-family residential community.
The development, called Sadie Ridge by M/I Homes, is located north of Bruce Road, east of Interstate 355 and south of Cedar Ridge Estates.
Director of Community and Economic Development Lance Thies said M/I is seeking feedback from the City before moving to the final development plan review.
The property was the old “Site 2” of the Steeplechase/McNaughton project, which was an age-restricted community approved in 2009 and expired in 2010 when final plans were not submitted, according to Council documents.

Thies said the site currently has R-1, R-2 and R-3 zoning, but “absent an active adult senior living community,” it would revert to R-1 zoning.
Because of this zoning, M/I Homes removed all “small lot home sites,” from its plan and reduced the total home count from an original 318 to 260, among other changes.
“They do meet our minimum lot size standards for R-1 [zoning],” Thies said. The R-1 zoning requires a certain lot size and a certain density of units per acre.
M/I Homes representatives said the latest plan calls for 132 traditional single-family lots, and 128 of M/I’s front-loaded town home series.
“It’s a big improvement,” Alderwoman Susan King said. “I like eliminating the smaller lot size homes.”
The City Council unanimously approved the concept plan.
