Massimiliano Allegri is ‘very close’ to agreeing a deal to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, reports in Italy claim.
Solskjaer has overseen the Red Devils’ worst start to a league campaign for 30 years and faces the difficult visit of league leaders Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday.
It is thought the Norwegian could pay with his job if things get worse this weekend, and, according to Tuttosport, United’s hierarchy are already lining up his replacement.
Allegri, the former Juventus boss, has reportedly been in talks with the club over a deal worth £6.5million a year.
The report also claims the 52-year-old wants to bring out-of-favour Juventus stars Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic with him to Old Trafford.
Mandzukic, 33, was linked with the Red Devils throughout the summer as they searched for a new forward after offloading both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
No striker moved to Old Trafford before August’s transfer deadline and Solskjaer’s side have struggled with only Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood to lead the line this term.
Man United legend Rio Ferdinand claims it would be foolish to part with Solskjaer, despite the club’s struggles this season.
Speaking at the launch of South London 4 South London last Friday, he told talkSPORT: “There’s no way the club would have thought this would be rosy straight away, they’re not naive enough to think that it was going to be a situation where he just changes it overnight.
“This is definitely something where there is going to be early pain, there is going to be a situation where the results are not going to go our way, especially with the new recruitment that they’ve started to go with younger players.
“That’s why I don’t see there being a change straight away, I’d be very surprised if I wake up, open a paper or an app and see that he has gone so quickly.”
