Aaron Wan-Bissaka is exactly the type of signing Manchester United needed and will soon prove money well spent by the club, Old Trafford legend Andy Cole has told talkSPORT.
The England Under-21 international is set to become a Red Devils player, having being pictured posing in a United shirt after completing his medical with the club.
It is understood a £50million fee has been agreed with Crystal Palace for his transfer, making the big-money move after just one full season of Premier League football.
That price makes him the third most expensive full-back in football, after Atletico Madrid’s Lucas Hernandez and Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy, and has got plenty of eyebrows raised.
talkSPORT host Adrian Durham described splashing £50m on the 21-year-old as a ‘crazy’ decision from United, given his lack of experience and that he is yet to even make a senior England cap.
But Cole believes his big price tag will soon be forgotten once he gets back on the pitch.
Speaking to Ian Abrahams, the United legend said: “Not being disrespectful to Ashley [Young] or Antonio [Valencia], because they both did a fantastic job at right back, but this is a young kid who is going to give Manchester United many, many years of service.
Adrian Durham talks about Aaron Wan-Bissaka's price tag to join Manchester United
“He’s done extremely well at Crystal Palace and the good thing, for me, is he’s a Man United fan as well.
“Nowadays, everyone has a big fee. Hopefully Aaron can just go there an embrace it.
“He’ll soon realise Manchester United is not a normal football club, it’s a club of great tradition, great history, it’s supported around the world and it’s an honour to play for such a great club.
“In Aaron’s case it’s a massive, massive leap, in one season doing extremely well for Crystal Palace and then moving to Manchester United.
“I’m more than happy for the kid. He proved just how good he is last season and he’ll improve at Manchester United. He’ll be playing with better players.
“I hope he as a real good start to the season and hopefully we will stop talking about the fee and won’t be judging him on the fee.
“He’s aspiring to be the best he can. It’s really good for him and hopefully things work out really well for him. He’s a talented boy.”
