The Spaniard will reportedly pen a fresh five-year deal after the club made a breakthrough in talks with the goalkeeper and his high-profile agent Jorge Mendes.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the Red Devils will pay the 28-year-old £350,000-a-week to make him the world’s highest-paid goalkeeper.
De Gea has just one year left on his current deal, which is worth £200,000-a-week, and United have been trying to tie him down to a new contract for months.
It is understood talks had been dragged out because he wanted parity with the club’s best-paid player – Alexis Sanchez on £500,000-a-week.
However, with Real Madrid no longer interested in signing De Gea, he looks set to extend his eight-year stay at Old Trafford.
The same cannot be said for want-away midfielder Paul Pogba.
While the Frenchman has been included in the squad for United’s upcoming pre-season tour, his agent Mino Raiola has expressed the player’s desire to leave this summer with Juventus and Real Madrid circling.
Paul Pogba suggests that he could be open to a move away from Manchester United
In an interview with The Times, Raiola said: “Everyone knows the willingness of Paul to move on. We are in the process of that. Everyone knows what the feelings of Paul are.”
“Everyone within the club, from the manager to the owner, knows Paul’s wishes.”
