The magnificent marvelous masterpieces that Marchesa sent down the runway
at New York Fashion Week were a fairytale come true. For their latest
collection, designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig took their
inspiration from the paintings of John Singer Sargent, and drew from the
Edwardian era luxury that his pieces were known for.
The duo wanted to celebrate the powerful woman, but still keep her in the
most high-fashion and feminine designs possible. This resulted in a very
varied yet cohesive collection which included looks like the usual
bejeweled and embellished gowns, tulle Grecian style gowns, and narrow
column gowns. Despite the variety of silhouettes used in this collection,
all the pieces looked like they happily belonged together.
It’s a challenge to ensure that your collection is still cohesive while
doing so many varied styles and silhouettes, but Chapman and Craig
successfully pulled this off and impressed their packed house of attendees
who gave them full applause when they came out to bow. There’s virtually no
silhouette like a Marchesa silhouette, and the duo’s designs continue to be
unstoppable. The red carpet favorites did not disappoint, and at least
several of these dresses are sure to be seen on Hollywood starlets come
awards season as usual.
