HOBOKEN, NJ — Mario’s Pizzeria in Hoboken has given away a free turkey dinner each year for 25 years to anyone who wants or needs one on Thanksgiving. This year, they broke their own record.
“We ran out of everything by 4 [p.m.] this year,” said a representative.
Last year, they cooked 25 turkeys, a rep said. But this year they cooked one more.
“People started coming a little later ’cause of the rain but we served over 300 meals,” the restaurant said. “26 turkeys completely gone. Not even a leg left.”
“26 is the most we have cooked,” he added.
The Italian restaurant provides a traditional turkey dinner with the trimmings each year starting at 11 a.m. They make several appeals, saying that anyone who’s hungry, wants company, or just wants to hang out and watch football can stop by. People working in town, those without family nearby, students, and many others stop in.
Meanwhile, Mario’s had a special (and famous!) Christmastime guest making pizza last week. Check out their video.
Mario’s Classic Pizza is located at 742 Garden St. Reach them at 201-659-0808 for more information. Order from their website here.
