New York – Moschino is collaborating with Barbie and Net-a-Porter to bring the world a
Moschino Barbie doll and a capsule collection. Recall that this wouldn’t be
Moschino Creative Director Jeremy Scott’s first hand at doing something
related to Barbie either. The designer’s second ever ready-to-wear
collection for the fashion house was Barbie inspired with pink reigning
supreme throughout every garment.
For the Barbie doll, Scott will be drawing more from his spring 2015
collection. This month on November 9, Mattel Inc.’s signature doll will be
dawning big gold chains and voluminous 1980s inspired hair.
The campaign for the doll includes a commercial with a commercial show tune
“Moschino Barbie! Look at those shoes, that belt, her hair! Covered in gold
with Moschino everywhere!” For those who actually want to look like the
Moschino Barbie, an eight piece capsule collection with two Moschino Barbie
t-shirts will launch as the same time as the doll also on November 9. Price
points for the capsule collection range from 225 dollars for a t-shirt to
1595 dollars for a handbag. The doll retails at 150 dollars.
“I wanted to bring all of the Moschino elements to Barbie, as I had done
the reverse by bringing all of the Barbie elements to Moschino for the
spring 2015 collection,” Scott said to WWD. “The thing I love most about
Barbie is that she is the ultimate muse, she’s worn every style and design
imaginable and at the same time she’s had every possible profession you can
dream of.”
