New York -Ever since Jeremy Scott took over as creative director of Moschino, classic
characters like the Looney Tunes and Barbie have been worked into their
designs. Now, the latest character inspiration for the brand is coming from
Nintendo characters. The line, called the “Super Moschino” project, is part
of a collaboration with Nintendo to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mario.
The pieces aren’t just an ode to Mario, however. Characters like Luigi,
Princess Peach, Toad, and Bowser are also emblazoned on items like
t-shirts, handbags, and accessories. The collection went live on Moschino’s
website on December 5, and is also available in select stores around the
globe.
Scott’s ability to work pop culture into his collection has helped make him
such a hit in the fashion industry. The “people’s designer,” as he is
referred to in his 2015 documentary directed by Vlad Yudin, has a knack for
giving the public those unexpected pop culture based items like his
McDonald’s inspired ready-to-wear pieces for fall 2014. If Moschino is
lucky, their Mario Bros. collection will work out for well as them as past
pop culture inspired pieces have, like their Powerpuff Girls inspired
collection and Spongebob inspired pieces.
