Southwest Minnesota State will continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action with a home dual versus No. 6 Upper Iowa (7-3, 3-1 NSIC) at the PE Gym on Friday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m., before traveling to take on No. 10 Minnesota State, Mankato (7-2, 4-0 NSIC) on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m.
OPPONENT AT A GLANCE -UPPER IOWA: The Peacocks are 7-3 overall, 3-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season with its lone conference loss to No. 10 Minnesota State, Mankato (21-15) on Jan. 24. The Peacocks lone loss came earlier this season to No. 10 Minnesota State, Mankato, 21-15. UIU is a well rounded team as the Peacocks are bolstered by eight individuals that ranked within the top five of the Super Region 3 rankings, including No. 1 Carl Broghammer at 197 pounds, No. 2 Trevor Franklin at 133 and No. 2 Wade Gobin at 165.
OPPONENT AT A GLANCE – MINNESOTA STATE, MANKATO: The Mavericks 7-2 overall and are off to a perfect 4-0 to start to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule. The Mavericks boast NSIC wins over the University of Mary (26-13), Minot State (54-0), No. 6 Upper Iowa (21-15) and No. 15 Augustana (21-19). The Mavericks feature five wrestlers that are ranked in the top five of Super Region 3, including No. 1 Cody Quinn (165) and Brendon Eichmann (174).

The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team claimed a convincing 32-8 win over Northern State before falling short to No. 1 St. Cloud State, 25-13 on Saturday in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action this weekend.
The conference dual win over Northern State was SMSU’s (11-2, 1-1) first of the season after surrendering to No. 19 Augustana to tiebreakers last Friday. SMSU dropped its first and last bouts of the dual but made up for the losses with eight victories and 32 points in between. Justin Reinsma won his 18th win of the season by earning his first five-point technical fall of the season. Jacob Begin picked up his eighth straight win with a major decision over Gavin Larsen at 165 pounds. SMSU capped the bout win off with a major decision from Travis Peralta (184) and its lone pin of the night from Micah Larson in the 197 pound bout.
Against No. 1 St. Cloud State, SMSU managed four bout wins but became the 43rd straight victim of the Huskies in dual matches. Justin Reinsma (133), Jacob Begin (165), Kyle Begin (174) and Micah Larson (197) were the victorious Mustangs as Reinsma, Kyle Begin and Larson all won by decision, while Jacob Begin mounted a major decision.
