MANHEIM, Pa. — North Dakota State University was ranked No. 7 in the 2018 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I Top 30 All-Academic team standings announced Thursday, April 19, while NDSU 157-pound senior Clay Ream headlined a group of four Bison named to the NWCA All-Academic Team individual list.

Ream was the NCAA Elite 90 Award recipient for the third straight year. The award recognizes the student-athlete with the highest G.P.A. at the championship site. The native of Wentzville, Mo., has a 3.977 in biochemistry and molecular biology. He is a four-time NWCA All-Academic selection.
Joining Ream on the NWCA All-Academic Team were 125 Paul Bianchi, 149 Kyle Gliva and 285 Dan Stibral. Ream and Bianchi were NCAA qualifiers this season.
Collectively, North Dakota State had a 3.382 grade point average. The team G.P.A. was determined using a system that includes 12 student-athletes from each program. A total of 10 of these came from the wrestlers that were entries in the NCAA tournament conference qualifier. The NWCA All-Academic team is comprised of 155 individuals.
Harvard was the top team for the fifth time in six years. The Crimson were followed by Kent State, Sacred Heart, American and Stanford to round out the top five. Utah Valley, NDSU, Drexel, Ohio State complete the top 10.
North Dakota State finished the season with a 7-10 record overall including 1-7 in the Big 12 Conference including top 20 wins over then No. 18-ranked Central Michigan and No. 12 Cornell. The Bison finished fifth at the Big 12 Championships led by conference runner-up performances by 157 Ream and 165 Andrew Fogarty. Four NDSU wrestlers – 125 Bianchi, 133 Cam Sykora, Ream, and Fogarty – advanced to the NCAA tournament in Cleveland.
