Reports that NER was lounging in a field of wildflowers atop the “Trail’s” lone hill are vastly exaggerated. Yours truly was actually on photographic assignment and captured the pier-six brawl between Dirigo’s Carry Buterbaugh and “Our Hero” going up that very last hill, after which Ms. Doneski’s Gulf Gas Card (won at the Brew Run) expired.
Still, unless unseen injury ensues (as it did with former 2nd placer Meaghan Shaw it’s almost coronation time for our two-time Series winner. Raven tressed HFCer Eileen Cakouros now holds a tenuous 1-point hold on the No. 2 spot as two-time Pub Queen Miae Jacobs made up two points on the ‘Trail.’

CSU’s Sue McNatt is a solid 4th while Senior speedster Claire McManus was seen walking on the course (and that’s never a good thing) and was overtaken in the Standings by Team Fabulous titan Melanie Hire.
If the Series ended today with Master runners Jacobs, McNatt and Hire all scoring in the top five – there would then be a 3-way tie for the top 40-49 spot between Catherine Cagle, Carol Lahiff and Christine Bradley.
With Claire McManus temporarily (we hope) hors de combat, Team Fabulous siren Sue Maslowski has a 1-point advantage with Bobby Bell hometowner (Havehill, MA) Annie Kucharski and Darlene Hoover just 3-points apart for the bronze.
Classy CSUer Catherine Farrell tops the Veteran leaderboard and with Mary Scherr and Sarah Fay missing two-and-through, Mary Radin is a solid second.
Next race up – The awe-inspiring Bobby Bell 5-Miler by the Lasting Room Pub in historic Haverhill, MA on Oct. 7 features gender-graded scoring that takes a woman’s time and multiplies it by .88 for a male equivalent. Using that with the ‘Trail,’ women’s winner Buterbaugh (37:13 – 6:00 pace) would have finished second to men’s champ Kirby Davis (32:19, 5:13 pace) but ahead of second place male Joe Navas (33:04, 5:20 pace). Christin Doneski would have placed third and so on…
