NEWARK, NJ — Newark City Hall will be closed and most non-emergency municipal services will be suspended on Monday, Jan. 1 in observance of New Year’s Day. Police, fire and other uniformed emergency services will be unaffected for the 2024 holiday.
Here are three other things to know on Jan. 1, officials said:
TRASH/RECYCLING – There will be no trash pick-ups on Monday, January 1. Residents whose trash and paper recycling would be picked up that day must not place their refuse and recycling at their curbs for pick-up. Trash pickup, and bottle and can recycling in those areas will resume on Thursday, January 4. Paper recycling will resume in those areas on Monday, January 8.
CITY SERVICES – The Department of Health and Community Wellness’s inspection services, transportation for seniors, and health clinic, will not operate on Monday, January 1. In addition, the Bureau of Vital Statistics will be closed. Residents will not be able to apply for permits, birth certificates, name-change certificates, marriage licenses, nor pay water or tax bills at City Hall.
COURT – The Municipal Court will also be closed on Monday, January 1. Residents can make payments on parking and traffic tickets through the website www.njmcdirect.com. To utilize this website, residents will need their summons number, including the prefix, and the City of Newark’s court code, which is 0714.
