Radio presenter and X-Factor judge Nick Grimshaw launches his debut
fashion collection with menswear retailer Topman today, October 14. The
collection has been in development for the past year and has been designed
to encapsulate the radio personalities dream wardrobe, featuring pieces
that reflect his personal style and fast.
Grimshaw was very hands-on with the project, some of his sketches and
doodles from his personal journal feature on the designs and his dog Pig
has been illustrated as the official collection mascot and logo. In
addition, Grimshaw also acts as the face of the campaign, which was shot in
his local neighbourhood of Primrose Hill in London.
Commenting on his debut fashion collection, Grimshaw said: “I’ve always
loved clothes and I love these ones so much that I asked Topman to make
them for me! They said yes – so here they are.”
The collection includes a mix of jackets, coats and shirts, as well as
T-shirts and fine gauge knits. Highlights include a statement leopard print
Crombie jacket, a monochrome collegiate jacket, a suede fringed jacket, as
well as striped jumper and paint splatter shirt.
Grimshaw adds that the collection has been designed to be worn with
Topman’s super spray-on skinny ripped jeans, which he “loves and wears
every day”.
Topman creative director, Gordon Richardson, added: “A naturally stylish
dressers Nick took very easily to the role of designer for his inaugural
collection for Topman, questioning every detail of the range and injecting
fun into the design process.
“Drawings from his sketchbook took on a life of their own when
translated into garments resulting in a collection that oozes his
personality and reflects his genuine love of clothes.”
Prices range from 15 pounds for a neck scarf, 40 pounds for a shirt and
up to 200 pounds for the fringed suede jackets and leopard-print coat.
Topman have released collaborative collections before, however, the
menswear retailer usually chooses up-and-coming designers such as Agi & Sam
and Astrid Andersen.
To coincide with the launch Topman have rolled out a Facebook app to
promote the collaboration. The new app allows users to create and customise
Grimshaw’s doodles to draw their own pet portrait. Each day those who
create the best designs will see them printed on bespoke Topman
T-shirts.
Topman marketing director, Jason Griffiths, commented: “The partnership
with Nick is a major event for the brand and together I think we’ve created
a fantastic experience that really celebrates this unique range and will be
a lot of fun for people to get involved in.”
