Pantone, the world’s authority on colour and accurate communication
thereof, has named not one but two colours to represent 2016.
The company has selected rose quartz, a “warmer embracing rose tone” and
serenity, a “cooler tranquil blue,” as the colours for next year.
“In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates
to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other
areas of design,” Leatrice Eiseman said. “This more unilateral approach to
color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and
fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of
expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or
judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our
eyes to different approaches to color usage.”
Fashionistas will have noted that the blending of rose quartz and serenity
has already been seen on the runway, as Chanel, Fendi, and Prada have all
featured the combination. Additionally, Thom Browne, Richard James, and
Roberto Cavalli have used the pairing in their 2016 collections.
