WWE Hall of Famer and former manager of The Road Warriors Paul Ellering recently spoke with “The Hannibal TV” about The Authors of Pain, who he managed in NXT, his daughter Rachel who is now a pro wrestler, managing the Legion of Doom, powerlifting, dog sled racing and more in a clip from Legends of the Ring. Below are some interview highlights.
On working with The Authors of Pain in NXT:
“I found it very rewarding. I went down there with no preconceived ideas, they called me up and said ‘you might want to check these two guys out, we think there’s a lot of potential there’. I went down, I did check them out, there is a lot of potential there. Rezar was an MMA fighter, and Akam was an Olympic caliber wrestler, and they both together have the commitment to be great. They have what it takes”.

On what he asks talents as he scouts them for possible WWE careers:
“First thing I look at is the commitment. Are they willing to do what everybody is willing to do? Because there are thousands of people that will work out five hours a day, they’ll read this book, they’ll watch this much film. There are thousands of them. But I want the ones that are not only willing to do that, but I ask them ‘what are you willing to give up? Are you willing to give up temptation? Are you willing to give up your friends? Are you willing to give up your family? Are you that committed to being great?’ Because that’s what the great ones do.”
