Paul Merson jokingly suggested Liverpool should be given the Premier League title now after another VAR decision went in favour of Jurgen Klopp’s side in their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
James Tomkins had a goal from a free-kick disallowed by VAR after Jordan Ayew was judged to have pushed Dejan Lovren off the ball.
And former Gunners striker Merson was left a drained figure as a result of the controversy.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, Paul Merson said: “Shall we give Liverpool the league now?”
Phil Thompson wasn’t impressed with his colleague, dismissing his colleague’s suggestion.
He simply said: “Shut up.”
But Merson insisted the goal for the hosts should have stood.
Merson explained: “It looks like Lovren has been shoved over.
“I would have given the goal. This is just ridiculous. He was nowhere near the ball.”

Liverpool left it late once again to beat the Eagles and go eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Wilfried Zaha thought he had snatched a point for the hosts, equalising in the 82nd minute after Sadio Mane’s strike, but Roberto Firmino capitalised on a goalmouth scramble three minutes later.
