Animal rights organisation PETA has launched a new campaign calling on
people to stop wearing wool for winter, following its
revealing animal cruelty on an Australian sheep farm.
The new video reveals workers on a sheep farm in Australia cutting flesh
off sheep’s backsides with shears and throwing and kicking the animals.
This marks the fifth exposé recorded at 37 wool facilities on three
continents.
To highlight PETA’s investigation of the major wool-producing regions of
Australia and the US, the animal rights organisation held demonstrations in
Los Angeles and New York on Black Friday calling on people to stop wearing
wool.
“We’ve seen that gentle sheep are punched in the face, slammed into the
floor and barbarically killed for wool sweaters and scarves,” said PETA
associate director Elisa Allen. “PETA is calling on kind people everywhere
to make this a wool-free winter and wear vegan.”
The campaign group is saying that wearing wool is on par with buying
clothes made from animal fur, such as mink or fox, and is asking for people
to look for alternative fashion items that use less-cruel methods of
production.
