Style bible publication Pop Magazine will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a special animal issue. Covergirl Drew Barrymore is photographed by Alasdair McLellan holding a white rabbit and donning a furry hat. In the wake of celebrating its anniversary issue comes the departure of the magazine’s former editor-in-chief Katie Grand, who has defected to rival Conde Nast to launch a title called Love Magazine. This is the last issue under her direction. Pop’s parent Bauer Media has yet to find a replacement editor and will not be rushing to publish a Spring issue, sources have said, and will instead release an Autumn Winter 2009 issue.
“Katie and her team have been utterly professional in producing a fantastic 20th anniversary issue,” a spokeswoman at Bauer Media told the Guardian, “but now we want to move on to appointing a new editor for the next chapter of the Pop story. We would rather invest time in finding a successor to Katie who will relaunch a magazine that will create a real difference to the fashion industry. Pop was, is, and will continue to be, a valuable member of our portfolio and we are really excited about what the future holds for the brand.”
Bauer Media owns more than eighty influential media brands spanning a wide range of interests, including heat, GRAZIA, Closer, MCN, FHM, Parker’s, MATCH, Magic 105.4, Kiss 100, Kerrang!, all-new Q Radio and the Big City Network, a group of twenty local radio stations. Katie Grand was appointed editor at Pop Magazine 8 years ago.
The anniversary issue hits news-stands on November 18.
