NJPW returns to Shizuoaka, Japan this Friday for day nine of the ongoing G1 Climax tournament, featuring singles action from the A Block.
Friday’s show is an interesting one, as a few key wins and losses will really start to separate the pack as we approach the halfway point of this competition. Elgin and Suzuki have both been participating at a high level, but currently sit at 2-2 with 4 points each. Likewise, Togi Makabe will be looking to stay in contention with his 4 points, but he’ll have to move past the ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi, who has 6.
Okada has been an interesting one to watch. The record-breaking former champion entered the G1 on a losing streak and is somehow only sitting at 4 points, but another loss for his CHAOS stablemate Yoshi-Hashi would basically take him out of the competition altogether in a year where many people said he needed to prove his worth to begin with. Fale (2) and Hangman (2) are another couple of guys that will try to hang on.
With Jay White, EVIL and Tanahashi at 6 and in a position to move up to 8 (the average winning number is 11 mind you), nothing will be decided on this show, but it’s going to be a key night in terms of deciding the small handful of guys who could advance to the finals and earn their way into the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 13.
