French fashion house Saint Laurent has confirmed that it will showcase
“part 1” of its women’s autumn/winter 2016 collection in Los Angeles, to
coincide with the annual Grammy Awards weekend.
The showcase, which will also feature the Saint Laurent men’s
autumn/winter 2016 collection, is set to take place at the Hollywood
Palladium on February 10, a location chosen because it’s “allegedly the
oldest and largest concert venue in Hollywood,” according to the press
release, as well as the fact that Frank Sinatra was the first performer on
stage when it opened in 1940.
The show will be a “tribute to the strong music scene in Los Angeles”
and marks the second music-related project from Hedi Slimane in Los Angeles
after his exhibition ‘California Song’ at the LA Museum of Contemporary Art
in November 2011.
Since being named creative director in 2012, Hedi Slimane has been a
little unconventional, he dropped the “Yves” from Saint Laurent, and he
even set up his design studio in Los Angeles, rather than staying in
Paris.
The women’s autumn/winter 2016 ‘part 1’ showcase will be followed up
with ‘part 2’ which will still be presented during Paris Fashion Week on
March 7.
The news comes as Saint Laurent expanded its social media presence with
an Instagram account. The French fashion house has been active on Twitter
since 2009, it was only this week however that the label finally launched
its Instagram, using the opportunity to promote the ‘part 1’ showcase with
a series of signature black-and-white images.
