SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon opened Tuesday’s episode by announcing this year’s Money In the Bank ladder match participants and Shinsuke Nakamura has been given the opportunity for a starring role going forward.
Nakamura was the last of McMahon’s originally planned five pack of combatants. AJ Styles, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler were also included in the match.
United States Champion Kevin Owens originally attempted to crash the party before McMahon interrupted his music and told Owens that he wasn’t part of the match. Owens then ran his mouth that McMahon was wrong to include the man he beat at Backlash – Styles – and not him.
McMahon then relented and added Owens to the match.
Coming off his victory at Backlash, Nakamura now has the perfect opportunity to build up a head of steam toward a championship run. Now, it’s up to the WWE whether they want to go that route.
