MITO, IBARAKI PREF. – Police on Sunday arrested a 43-year-old man who was on a nationwide wanted list on charges of causing bodily injury to a driver in a road-rage case that occurred at around 6:15 a.m. on Aug. 9 on an expressway in Ibaraki Prefecture.
Fumio Miyazaki was detained in the city of Osaka, according to the Ibaraki Prefectural Police Department. The police plan to have him returned for interrogation in Ibaraki Prefecture.
Miyazaki, whose occupation is unknown, is suspected of stopping the car of a 24-year-old driver by reckless driving near the Moriya rest area on the inbound lanes of the Joban Expressway in Moriya, Ibaraki Prefecture.
He got out of his own vehicle and punched the driver in the face several times, shouting things like “I’ll kill you!” The man suffered bruises on his face and hand.
The man submitted a victim report to police on Aug. 11.
The series of acts was recorded in a dashboard camera in the victim’s car and the footage was analyzed by experts at the prefectural police department.

The police will also investigate whether a woman who was in Miyazaki’s vehicle at the time played any role in the incident. She is believed to have taken a video of the incident with her mobile phone.
Police suspect that Miyazaki was also involved in a reckless driving case with the same vehicle, a loaner from a dealership, on the Shin-Tomei Expressway in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, and a national road in the city of Shizuoka on July 23.
Police in Ibaraki Prefecture will work with the police departments of Aichi and Shizuoka prefectures to investigate him.
