After a much-talked about reemergence from the White House last week, it looks like Melania Trump is officially back on the First Lady grind. FLOTUS stepped out as the honorary chair of Ford Theatre’s annual gala celebrating President Abraham Lincoln on Sunday night in Washington D.C., which was also attended by the Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen.
The First Lady offered concluding remarks and presented Sheila C. Johnson and golfer Jack Nicklaus with the Lincoln Medal at the event, which is given to individuals who exemplify the “character” of our 16th president. (Coincidentally, according to a new film by none other than the recently-pardoned Dinesh D’Souza, Donald Trump is also one of those people that is comparable to Lincoln—D’Souza’s releasing a film called Death of a Nation in which he compares No. 16 and No. 45.)
For the occasion at Ford Theatre, Melania donned a floor-length sleeveless black gown by German fashion house Escada (currently available on sale for $2,750). Since her whirlwind during the French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the White House in April—the one where she wore that hat and a glittering Chanel gown—FLOTUS has toned down her fashion choices. Following a nearly-month long hiatus out of the public eye, Melania made her debut clad in a nondescript Celine trench coat.
Meanwhile, the President departed the G7 Summit in Canada for Singapore, where he is to speak with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (not be confused with the another Kim—Kardashian—with whom he recently discussed prison reform) at 9 p.m. ET this evening in a historic meeting.

President Trump told reporters over the weekend that the reason Melania did not to accompany him on his trips to Canada and Singapore, as originally planned, was due to her recent operation. He added that the procedure was “nearly 4 hours” in length. “She wanted to go,” he told reporters before flying into Quebec, but she “can’t fly for one month.”

This flight ban is due to a procedure for a “benign kidney condition” which took place in mid-May. Three doctors who did not treat Melania told the New York Times that “if Mrs. Trump’s procedure had no complications, as the White House has repeatedly said, it would not be unheard-of for a physician to clear her for travel.”
Nonetheless, it appears they are erring on the side of caution.
