High street fashion retailer Topshop is heading to the kitchen with its
newest collaboration with English heritage brand Wedgwood, known for its
fine china and tableware, on a clothing collection and limited edition tea
cup and saucer.
The Topshop Unique collaboration uses two of Wedgwood’s most memorable
designs – Wild Strawberry and Jasperware to inspire tea dresses, blouses,
skirts and high-waisted jeans as part of the retailer’s spring 2016
collection.
Wedgwood’s Wild Strawberry pattern, featuring finely drawn leaves,
flowers and succulent red strawberries, was reworked into a print
incorporated on an airy blouse, named Blackbird, to create a “non-fusty
take on garden party style”. While Wedgwood’s famous Jasperware pattern,
first used in 1774, inspired a pair of high-waisted, eighties-inspired
jeans, in a ‘porcelain blue’ wash, shown on the spring runway.
Rounding off the collaboration is a limited edition Wedgwood x Topshop
Unique ‘Blackbird’ tea cup and saucer that features this pattern that
appears on the blouse.
Commenting on the collaboration, Topshop global creative director, Kate
Phelan said: ”We are thrilled to be partnering with Wedgwood on prints for
the SS16 Unique collection. The marriage of two such celebrated British
brands feels very fitting and the reworked prints perfectly encapsulate our
girl for the season.”
The limited-edition teacup and saucer is available to purchase online on
both the Topshop and Wedgwood sites and at selected retailers for 75
pounds.
