The forward suffered a fracture to his right arm in the win against Aston Villa where he scored two goals.
A statement on the club’s website read: “Following surgery, our medical staff shall be reviewing management options for Son’s rehabilitation with the player expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks.”
Spurs play RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday, with manager Jose Mourinho robbed of another source of goals given Harry Kane is also injured.
After the win against Villa, Mourinho explained how pleasing it was to have someone who works as hard as Son, whose first goal came via a rebound of a missed penalty.
“It’s good that he was fast and smart enough to attack the second ball and from a difficult angle to score was very good.
“It was a very important moment, minute 44 or 45, it was fantastic.
“But then in the end of the game, in a difficult situation, for a striker to run 40 metres to face the keeper and to be cool enough to put the ball in the net, of course, is precious.”
Son has scored six goals in his last five games for the club, while both he and Kane have been crucial to the club’s march into the Champions League knockout stage.
Both players have scored 11 of Spurs’ 18 goals in the competition so far. It doesn’t get any easier after that, with a Premier League clash with Chelsea following.
