UEFA has announced that ticket prices for away fans will be capped in the Champions League and Europa League with immediate effect.
The move will see supporters of Europe’s top clubs charged a maximum of £63.50 in the Champions League and £41 in the Europa League.
Confirming the news UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: “Fans are the lifeblood of the game and those who follow their teams to away matches must have access to tickets at a reasonable price, bearing in mind the cost they have already had to incur for their trip.
“By capping ticket prices, we want to make sure that away fans can still travel to games and play their part in making the atmosphere inside football stadiums so special.”
The decision comes ahead of the Champions League and Europa League group stages, which kick off later this month.
English quartet Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all previously called on European football’s governing body to make ticket prices more reasonable for fans who travel abroad.
This price cap will come as a welcome boost to many supporters who travel far and wide to follow their team in Europe, with many struggling with travel arrangements and getting hold of tickets for the finals in Madrid and Baku respectively last season.
