London – British fashion designer Victoria Beckham is to be honoured by amfAR,
the Foundation for AIDS Research, at its second annual fundraising gala in
Hong Kong later this month.
The designer is being recognised for her philanthropic efforts and
“exceptional contributions” to the global struggle against HIV and AIDS
research. Beckham has been a strong advocate for HIV and AIDS research and
is a UNAIDS international goodwill ambassador. The designer also designs
T-shirt for World AIDS Day to raising money to support the United Nations
programme.
Actress Uma Thurman is serving as the evening’s honorary chair, while
Adrien Brody, Karolina Kurkova and Michelle Rodriguez are serving as the
event co-chairs. The gala, taking place on March 19, is also being
sponsored by Harry Winston and Calvin Klein, and designer Francisco Costa
is expected to attend.
This year’s event will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, live
auction conducted by Swiss auctioneer Simon de Pury, entertainment, and an
after party. amfAR Hong Kong 2016 will be the second time the
foundation hosts its flagship fundraising event in Asia. Last year’s
inaugural amfAR Hong Kong raised over 4 million dollars for amfAR’s
critical AIDS research programmes.
