London – US sportswear company Volcom has teamed up with Repreve to
recreate its Mod-Tech boardshorts using recycled fibre. The boardshorts,
said to be a staple in Volcom’s collection, are currently being made from
recycled fibre which is produced from recycled materials, including plastic
bottles.
Approximately 5 plastic bottle are used now when producing a pair of Volvom
Mod-Tech boardshorts. The recycled polyester needs half the amount of
energy to be produce than that of virgin polyester and helps reduce
greenhouse gas emissions during the production process by approximately 45
percent. In turn, this offsets the need to use new resources, such as
petroleum while emitting fewer greenhouse gases.
The newly developed boardshorts are part of Volcom’s ’New Future Roadmap’,
a guide which oversees the company’s impact on the environment, the drives
behind the impacts and how Volcom can lay a strong foundation for its
environmental sustainability commitment.
“Mod-Tech boardshorts are made for the believers of tomorrow. The eager
optimists pushing for change,” said the company in a statement. “And that
change is includes in these boardshorts showcased with the Repreve recycled
fibre.”
