Wesley Sneijder was reportedly arrested for causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to a car while he was drunk.
Images of the former Netherlands international have surfaced showing him climbing on top of the vehicle and kicking the windscreen.
The incident took place in Utrecht last Sunday while he was back in his home town with the midfielder currently playing in Qatar for Al-Gharafa.
Soccer News report that Sneijder was released by the police after settling the bill for the damage, which was £5,382.
Police refused to confirm if it was the former Real Madrid player who had been arrested.
They did, however, confirm a 35-year-old male had been arrested for the destruction of a car.
Sneijder has had an illustrious career where he has won league titles with Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Galatasaray.
He moved to Al-Gharafa in January 2018 and has gone on to score 18 goals in 29 games.
The 35-year-old also won 134 caps with the Netherlands and came close to winning the World Cup in 2014 but they were beaten by Spain in the final.
