High-profile celebrities have been landing in hot water all week long due to controversial statements posted online. The biggest scandal yet came when comedian Roseanne Barr posted messages that several perceived to be racist on Twitter, resulting in her recently revived television series on ABC being cancelled by the network. Only a few days later, it seems that a high-profile WWE executive has run into a similar problem due to a Twitter account being run by his wife. Salavtore Siino had been a Senior Vice President for the company since early 2017, but WWE recently decided to oust him from the company in light of the controversy that is currently surrounding his wife.
According to a report from The Huffington Post, Siino’s wife, Amy Jane Mekelburg, runs the @AmyMek account on Twitter, which has been accused of spreading anti-Muslim rhetoric. Siino’s job consisted of negotiating WWE TV deals for the United Arab Emirates, wherein the population is mostly Muslim. When reported Luke O’Brien reached out to WWE for comment, the company first stated that they were not aware of Mekelburg’s Twitter account. After speaking with WWE officials for a second time, the company confirmed that they had terminated Siino. After her husband was fired from the company, Mekelburg posted her reaction, which can be read in the tweets posted here.
The Mae Young Classic tournament will return to Full Sail University not long after WWE is finished with their current United Kingdom Championship Tournament series. Details surrounding participants for the show have now started to slowly get out lately, and a few other key bits on information are coming out now as well. It was recently reported that the tournament will be taped in Orlando, Florida on August 7th and August 8th of this year. A slight change in schedule has reportedly been made as F4WOnline now reports that the tournament will take place on August 8th and August 9th instead. There is still no word on when the shows will be added to the WWE Network as of yet.
