Silence radio depuis plus de deux semaines. Les recherches se poursuivent dans la jungle amazonienne, en Colombie, où un avion s’est écrasé début mai alors qu’il transportait trois adultes et quatre enfants. Les corps des adultes ont été récupérés par les secours, mais ceux des enfants n’ont toujours pas été retrouvés. Plus de cent militaires arpentent la jungle dans le cadre des recherches.
C’est dans ce contexte que le président colombien a annoncé, mercredi 17 mai, que les enfants avaient été sauvés. Mais quelques heures plus tard, Gustavo Petro s’est rétracté, faute de confirmation. Ce drame soulève plusieurs questions.
Un petit avion, un Cessna 206 HK 280, s’est écrasé le 1er mai en plein cœur de la jungle amazonienne, en Colombie. Il transportait sept personnes, dont quatre enfants, âgés respectivement de 11 mois, 4, 9 et 13 ans. L’aéronef a disparu des radars dans les environs de San José Del Guaviare, dans le centre du pays, où il devait se rendre, et été retrouvé lundi 15 mai à la verticale, le nez écrasé au sol au milieu d’une dense végétation.
Les autorités ont d’abord annoncé avoir identifié le corps du pilote. Le lendemain, elles ont retrouvé la mère des enfants et le copilote, un dirigeant de la communauté indigène Uitoto, à laquelle tous les passagers de l’avion appartenaient. Depuis, plus de cent militaires sont mobilisés jour et nuit pour tenter de retrouver les enfants, avec l’espoir qu’ils soient encore en vie.
Les causes de l’accident n’ont pas encore été déterminées. Selon la protection civile colombienne, le pilote avait signalé des problèmes de moteur avant que l’avion ne disparaisse des radars. Par ailleurs, les autorités n’ont pas donné les raisons du déplacement en avion de la famille. Mais les habitants de cette région difficile d’accès, du fait de l’absence de routes notamment, ont souvent recours à des petits avions pour voyager.

Un message du président colombien a provoqué une fausse joie mercredi soir. Gustavo Petro a annoncé la découverte des quatre enfants sains et saufs. “Après de laborieux efforts de recherches par nos forces militaires, nous avons retrouvé vivants les quatre enfants qui avaient disparu à cause de l’accident d’avion à Guaviare. Une joie pour le pays”, a-t-il écrit sur Twitter.
Sauf qu’au moment de son annonce, cette information n’avait pas été confirmée. Après plusieurs heures, le président colombien a supprimé son tweet et publié un message d’excuses sur son compte. “Les informations fournies par l’ICBF [Institut colombien du bien-être familial] n’ont pas pu être confirmées. Je suis désolé de ce qu’il s’est passé”, a insisté Gustavo Petro, ajoutant que “les forces militaires et les communautés autochtones poursuivront leur quête inlassable pour donner au pays les nouvelles qu’il attend”.
