Argentina’s campaign for the FIFA World Cup was off to the worst possible start after a loss to Saudi Arabia. Despite a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a Lionel Messi penalty, Argentina were beaten 2-1 for this edition’s first upset to take place and that too in 3 days.
Critics had their knives out, fans started trolling and slamming players plus Brazilian supporters began to take pleasure in an Argentinian loss. Basically, the usual reactions when a strong team loses to an underdog.
But let us just stop for a second. It is important to note that this may just be an aberration. After all, Argentina are still very strong and very much in contention for the title.
Argentina are ranked 3rd in the world and before this defeat were unbeaten in 36 straight games. They are also Copa champions. All in all, they are down, but by no means out.
