SELDEN, NY — A Long Island man believed to have been stabbed to death by his son was remembered by family as a dedicated father who went out of his way for his children, according to a GoFundMe page organized in his honor.
Joseph Zoll’s cousin, Jane Mead Harris, announced she was starting a GoFundMe page, saying it is “with a very heavy heart” that she seeks help and support for his children.
She set the page up on behalf of his family to help Zoll’s children “give him the proper funeral he so deserves,” the Selden resident wrote.
Patch has reached out to Mead.
In her post, Mead described Zoll, 61, as having lost his life “tragically.”
Suffolk police are searching for his 23-year-old son, Matthew, who investigators believe stabbed him to death inside his Rocky Point home early Saturday morning.

He was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital.
Police are continuing to search for Matthew.
“This has left his family at a complete loss, and they are in need of our support,” Mead wrote. “His family is faced with having to prepare his funeral arrangements, and I am hoping that through donations this will lessen their burden.”
“Joe was a dedicated father who did everything and anything to give his children the best life he could provide them with,” she added.
“Please consider helping Joe’s family during this tragic time in their lives,” she continued. “No amount is too small, and anything is truly appreciated.”
So far, Mead’s fundraiser has raised over $15,000 toward its $20,000 goal.
In addition to Matthew, Zoll had three children, including Kristen, Jessica, and Joseph, and a wife, Gloria, according to his obituary posted by the Rocky Point Funeral Home.
A burial mass will be held 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 20 at St. Anthony Of Padua R.C. Church in Rocky Point with a private cremation to follow.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rocky Point Funeral Home, 603 Route 25A, Rocky Point.
