Of course, an effort was made by the club to get the cup tie rescheduled but the EFL held firm, leaving Liverpool in this awkward position.
A decision was made to take Liverpool’s first-team out to Qatar so the academy players have been tasked with going to Villa Park to try and get a result.
Klopp has opted to play weakened sides earlier in the competition where they beat MK Dons and Arsenal respectively.
However, even those teams had the likes of James Milner, Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi.
All of these guys are either injured or in Qatar so making it to the semi-finals seems a pretty tall order for Liverpool against a Villa side who appear to be taking the Carabao Cup seriously.
The youngest Liverpool team to ever be fielded came in January 2017 in an FA Cup tie against Plymouth – the average age of the starting XI 21 years and 296 days.
However, a 119-year record could get broken tonight in the form of their youngest ever captain.
Alex Raisbeck, who was 20 years and 250 days old when he captained them for the first time in 1900 holds the record. It’s not clear who will lead out the Reds out at Villa.
Ahead of the game, Under-23s boss Neil Critchley, who is in charge of Liverpool for this game said: “What I would say is that the mentality that is bred into the first-team players here, seeps into the academy as well, and you can’t help but get influenced by what goes on above you.
“I like to think that our young players, as they showed against Arsenal in the last round, have a similar mentality, or are developing that mentality our first-team players produce on a weekly basis.”
If Liverpool somehow manage to get through then it would demonstrate just how brilliantly things are going at the club once more.
Below you can see talkSPORT.com‘s predicted Liverpool line-up and some brief profiles about the players you may not be familiar with.
In goal is one of the more familiar names in Irish stopper Caoimhin Kelleher, 21, who played in the MK Dons and Arsenal games, saving a penalty from Dani Ceballos in the shootout victory over the Gunners in the last round.
The right-back slot should go to Dutchman Ki-Jana Hoever, 17, who made history of being Liverpool’s youngest ever FA Cup player in January at the age of 16.
Centre-backs should be summer signing Sepp van den Berg and Billy Koumieto, both 17. Koumieto moved to Liverpool’s academy in 2018 and is a France Under-17 international.
On the left, we could have 18-year-old Yasser Larouci who did well when give opportunities in pre-season. He was fortunate to escape serious injury after being hacked to the ground by Sevilla player Joris Gnagnon.
Kane is likely to play in midfield (no, not that one). Herbie Kane, 21, will probably be the most experienced player in this XI having enjoyed a loan spell at League One club Doncaster Rovers last season where he excelled.
They also have Wales Under-21 international Isaac Christie-Davies, 22, who is said to have an eye for a pass.
The final midfield slot could go to a player who’s been around at Liverpool forever in Pedro Chirivella, 22. It would be ironic if he was to get the winning goal as his cameo slot against MK Dons in September almost led to Liverpool being kicked out of this season’s Carabao Cup.
It looked like Rhian Brewster, 19, and Harvey Elliott, 16, were going out to Qatar but that could be delayed so they can play in Birmingham. Brewster is reportedly nursing a knock but he’ll surely get wheeled out regardless of whether he’s 100 per cent fit or not.
The final spot up top could go to winger Luis Longstaff, 18. Longstaff arrived from Newcastle in 2015 but is no relation to brothers Sean and Matty.
