After a man refused to consume alcohol and beef, he was allegedly roughed by five people who used sticks and stones during the attack in Radhanagar village in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj.
In his complaint, Chandan Ravidas said five men beat him for refusing to eat red meat on New Year’s Eve.
As per Chandan, he had gone to a shop at Pakinja Mor on Saturday night.
The accused, Mithun Shaikh and four others were spotted drinking and consuming cow’s meat by Chandan.
This development led to a heated argument between Chandan and the five men, who then tried to force-feed him beef.
The accused snatched away Ravidas’ mobile and pelted stones at him.
According to the police complaint, after the alleged attack, the accused took away a sum of Rs 8,000 from Ravidas.
Upon resisting the attack, Chandan Ravidas was allegedly stripped naked too.
Radhanagar police station SI Rakesh Kumar told India Today that a complaint has been received and a probe is underway.
In September 2022, Gujarat Police arrested the owner of a restaurant in the city of Surat for allegedly serving beef and storing cow meat.
As per reports, the accused, identified as Sarfaraz Mohammad, who ran Delhi Dastarkhwan restaurant in the city’s Hodibangla area, was arrested in the case.
The action by cops was initiated after a Hindu outfit filed a complaint at the Lalgate police station. Based on the accusation, a raid was conducted at the eatery and six bags of 10kg meat each were found stored there.
Initially, the eatery owner claimed that the seized meat was of buffalo. But it was revealed later by the forensic laboratory that two of the six samples were cow meat.
