Man City beat Leicester at home in a must-win clash to gain ground on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
Pep Guardiola’s side had to come from behind to win 3-1 at the Etihad on Saturday and are now 11 points behind the runaway leaders, who did not play in the league this weekend.
The Foxes struck first at the Etihad, Jamie Vardy adding the finishing touch to a rapid counter-attack in the 20th minute.
Leicester’s joy was short-lived as their former player Mahrez came back to haunt them as he found the back of the net thanks to a wicked deflection off Soyuncu.
Five minutes before the break City were given an opportunity to turn the game on its head when Raheem Sterling was fouled in the Leicester box.
Ilkay Gundogan squeezed the ball between Kasper Schmeichel’s outstretched left hand and a post to convert the penalty, making it 2-1.
Vardy was causing plenty of problems for the City defence and nearly turned provider in the second half.
His cross in the 61st minute was met by Harvey Barnes but he did not get enough contact on the ball to beat Ederson.
Schmeichel kept City out five minutes later when he got a strong hand to Mahrez’s curling effort.
Jesus extended City’s lead after 69 minutes when Kevin De Bruyne brushed off a weak challenge from Soyuncu to supply the Brazilian at the back post.
Guardiola’s side saw out the the final 20 minutes with relative ease to take all three points and move to within 11 of Liverpool.
Leicester remain in second place but are still ten points back from Jurgen Klopp’s side.
