MURRIETA, CA — Heavy police activity and street closures Monday in Murrieta involved an officer-involved shooting, though few details were immediately available.
Late Monday morning, the Murrieta Police Department posted a message to social media asking residents to avoid the area of Murrieta Hot Springs Road, between Margarita Road and School House Way, as well as the area of Margarita Road, between Murrieta Hot Springs Road and Fordham Way. The area contains residential neighborhoods, medical offices, and strip malls, and is near the Murrieta Hot Springs Resort.
Police said they were conducting an investigation.
According to Murrieta’s Lt. Jeremy Durrant, three separate law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation, and he confirmed that a police shooting occurred.
Information about the person who was shot was not released. The officer involved in the shooting was not from the Murrieta Police Department, Durrant said.
“Everyone involved has been accounted for,” and “there is no threat to the community,” according to Durrant.
