Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola says he is happy to stay at Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but has stressed he needs to be in a team winning trophies.
The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens, having barely featured for United this season.
He has 18 months left on his current deal at Old Trafford so Man United are running out of time to cash in on the player, although Solskjaer has always made it clear he sees him as integral to his plans.
Pogba is stalling on a contract extension but Raiola says the Frenchman is only focused on getting back playing for the Red Devils after a long spell injured.
Raiola also went on to say that Pogba ‘loves’ Solskjaer and is not pushing for an exit, despite claiming in the summer he was ready for a new challenge.
Asked if United are planning to move Pogba on, Raiola told Sky Sports News on Monday: “Paul has always respected Manchester United just as Manchester United has also always respected Paul.
“And the only one that talks for Manchester United and for Paul is Ole, because he comments in the paper and in the press.
David Moyes says Man United cannot afford to let Paul Pogba leave
“I go by what he [Solskjaer] says. He [Pogba] will not move, and that’s okay. We are good with them.
“Paul is a little bit struggling with his injury that we tried to resolve and I think that’s our main interest now.
“There’s one objective that Paul has and that is to perform as well as possible with Manchester United.
“He’s a top pro and I think that his heart is in the right place with Manchester United.
“So if Ole has ideas about my player and he wants to talk to me about it, he knows my number.
“And until that moment I talk with Ed Woodward, because that’s the person that I talk to at the club. I never spoke with Ole.
“So I don’t know. I only know that Paul respects him, loves him for what he has done in the past with him. And that’s it, that’s the only thing I know about Ole.”
Raiola, however, went on to add that his client needs to be at a club competing for major honours.
Asked whether he could see Pogba still being at United in a year’s time, Raiola responded: “Yes I can, but in a club that I hope fights for the league and hopefully the Champions League.
“Is that strange? Am I the only one that’s worried? Is the owner not worried? I think that everybody that is in love with Manchester United is worried about that.
“I’m worried about that for my player. I’m not a fan of Manchester United but I have a very direct interest.
“As long as Paul is in Manchester United, he wants to win trophies with Manchester United. That’s the kind of player he is and he will not act differently.
“Like Ole’s saying, it’s a work in progress now this club. He’s says he’s working on a team for next year. Let’s hope that it goes well for him because the world needs Manchester United on the top.
“Clearly they are not where they think they should be.”
