MASSACHUSETTS — The Republican primary for the Plymouth and Barnstable Senate seat is officially headed for a recount.
Unofficial vote tallies from the primary race show Kari MacRae and Mathew Muratore separated by less than 50 votes, which prompted MacRae — who trails Muratore — to gather signatures for a recall.
She confirmed on Monday that enough signatures were collected to trigger the recount, which is scheduled for Thursday at the Falmouth Public Library.
In a Facebook livestream on Thursday, MacRae said there were “some discrepancies” in Plymouth over vote totals, stating that Muratore “agreed” with her. The Muratore campaign said they, however, do not agree with that idea.
Muratore said he was confident in his lead in a statement, and is shifting his focus to the November race.
“As a recount progresses following our campaign’s primary victory, our campaign has shifted its focus to November,” the campaign said, in a statement, which continued:
“Our campaign has complete confidence in our election system and the clerks and wardens who administer our elections. We appreciate the work that they do, and we are grateful for their hard work to deliver free and fair elections.
In the spirit of this confidence, our campaign will respect the recount process, and we work collaboratively with election officials to ensure that the intent and will of every voter is properly discerned.”
The eventual winner of the primary will face current State Rep. Dylan Fernandes, who is vacating his seat to run for this senate seat.
