BUCKS COUNTY, PA — TGI Fridays has closed its doors near the Oxford Valley Mall as the national chain continues to shrink its footprint. Meanwhile, the Newtown business community came together in October to raise an astounding $91,000 for Bucks County breast cancer patients. The
businesses organized its second annual Mr. Bucks County contest, crowning developer Joe DeLuca as this year’s winner.

The Newtown business community not only turned the town pink on during October, they raised more than $90,000 for Main St., a nonprofit devoted to supporting breast cancer patients in Bucks County. During a block party fundraiser that featured the crowning of developer Joe DeLuca as Mr. Bucks County 2024, the business community raised upwards of $91,000 for the nonprofit. Viticulturist Greg Olsen, who made headlines in 2005 as the world’s third space tourist, will host an extraordinary evening of wine, food and out of this world stories in November at Frost Lounge in Doylestown. Dr. Olsen will be the guest at a four-course dinner on Nov. 14 featuring wines from Olsen’s South African vineyard and will be making remarks at the event about his journey into space, according to Frost owner Uri Abrams. Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill + Bar has named Newtown-based franchisee The Rose Group its 2024 “Abe Gustin Franchisee of the Year” and RoseGroup Vice President Paul Rockelmann its “HR Excellence of the Year”honoree for 2024. The awards were presented at the restaurant’s franchise conference held in Nashville, Tenn. Click here to read more.

The team selected in October by New York State to build and launch BioGenesis Park, a cell and gene therapy center on Long Island, will include Bucks County-based Baruch S. Blumberg Institute, which is being brought in to manage the new biotech incubator. The Blumberg Institute currently manages the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center (PABC) in Doylestown and B+labs at Cira Centre in Philadelphia. Click here to read more.
