Upset due to his prolonged illness and the bills incurred by his treatment, a 24-year-old man ended his life at a hotel in Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar. The deceased has been identified as Nitesh. Police said that he had booked a room on Tuesday afternoon.
Nitesh came to the hotel carrying a small bag and was found dead with a plastic bag covered on his face, which was connected to a small oxygen cylinder through a tube. For the unversed, oxygen, if taken in excess, can slow the heart rate to dangerously low levels leading to oxygen poisoning.
In a suicide note recovered by the police, Nitesh mentioned being troubled by his prolonged illness and the bills incurred by his treatment. Not wanting his parents to spend any more money on his care, he started looking online for painless ways to end his life, police said.
He discovered this particular method during his research and even watched several videos related to it, they added.
Earlier in February, an 18-year-old boy died by suicide, allegedly due to pressure over failing his exams, inside his house in Southwest Delhi, officers had said.
According to a senior police official, the information regarding the suicide of the 18-year-old boy, namely, Vishnu, was received at Safdarjung police station, following which a police team was rushed to the spot.
“He was 12th standard student. His mother is staff nurse. Initial enquiry pointed out suicide due to exam pressure,” said the official.
