It looks like WWE is having no trouble selling advertising on their yet-to-launch WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX series, which kicks off with the special 20th Anniversary premiere episode next Wednesday night, October 4th.
FOX Sports Executive Vice President (EVP) of Sports Sales Seth Winter told Ad Age that 20 sponsors who have never purchased ad time during a pro wrestling show have already signed on as sponsors for the new program.
Winter also noted that in his opinion, WWE Friday Night SmackDown on FOX can dominate the younger demographics.
“We want to seize the night,” said Winter in the aforementioned Ad Age article. “If you program for that demo, they will come.”
Stephanie McMahon’s quote from the Upfront Panel was also included in the piece.
“With WWE we can script those big moments, because we’re storytelling,” said Stephanie. “We can script the touchdown, we can script the buzzer beater. Audiences watch for different reasons and on different platforms, but no matter where they are, you need to entertain them. That’s the game, right there. And we can make those moments happen, those memories that last a lifetime.”
